This particular one is part of a pair that came feeding at my neighbour's garden. Not extremely shy though. I took this photo through a fence, from a low position, hence able to capture its legs too.<br /></div>Steve Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07002727597286458734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2070530668169536653.post-51952916632059031712009-02-15T01:16:00.005+08:002009-02-15T14:01:29.683+08:00Sunbirds' Valentine Flolicking in My Garden<div style="text-align: justify;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-3xzqw3mC_tQJil_MmFN6Kkk0V1sX54EjdRR365Ye_yTxCIHrl8NkAQLPBuQ_FjmEQ-nRgqrWrBZmXpASfAUJkFKHVJ-gGhchXBYofeh8ZqX-9VzLzYzBU-AETN5We8Xd73-2nGMGZtg/s1600-h/birdgardenBathing+8.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 269px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-3xzqw3mC_tQJil_MmFN6Kkk0V1sX54EjdRR365Ye_yTxCIHrl8NkAQLPBuQ_FjmEQ-nRgqrWrBZmXpASfAUJkFKHVJ-gGhchXBYofeh8ZqX-9VzLzYzBU-AETN5We8Xd73-2nGMGZtg/s400/birdgardenBathing+8.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5302708147088634898" border="0" /></a>This is a female Brown-throated Sunbird (Anthreptes malacensis). It has olive colour feathers., and feed on nectar. I think about two pairs of the birds were in my garden this afternoon at about 5.20 pm, turn up for bath after I had sprayed water to the orchids. They appears so happy and flew down. One manage a quick bath by rolling down along along a fern leave! I snaped away and got a few good photos. Later another did the same. Wow, they must had a very hot day.<br />Aperture f/5.6, Shutter speed 1/160, Focal length (35mm) 300mm, ISO 400.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK6CJQtLwweWLFWqJjg7Po02m2ZiAzmg5DT2gPwstbBeDIkXgkUnC-aX3pscuBKiZQT33nCmrLBJ8B-Rkwm3DzFyIIBkQR6OFsmSBPWer_J7zi3X1qVOeFEffF-c_yx0Eff_C9DwS3d0o/s1600-h/birdgardenBathing+11.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 269px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK6CJQtLwweWLFWqJjg7Po02m2ZiAzmg5DT2gPwstbBeDIkXgkUnC-aX3pscuBKiZQT33nCmrLBJ8B-Rkwm3DzFyIIBkQR6OFsmSBPWer_J7zi3X1qVOeFEffF-c_yx0Eff_C9DwS3d0o/s400/birdgardenBathing+11.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5302708141508269330" border="0" /></a>Spreading one wing to rub some water on.<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQC_y1L2oUdodnj3YGBgnYRijHefUEhpEBKXIViq7t6YwZ2L__GH4np2M7MTqF-yjz6IMHpzEOS6A5Nx44R9SQnCShjm0vQoZanjW_VFSKZCjrJ2axtUO3y__9vFhLtI9NpGr9zUagZ9s/s1600-h/birdgardenBathing+1+%282%29.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 269px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQC_y1L2oUdodnj3YGBgnYRijHefUEhpEBKXIViq7t6YwZ2L__GH4np2M7MTqF-yjz6IMHpzEOS6A5Nx44R9SQnCShjm0vQoZanjW_VFSKZCjrJ2axtUO3y__9vFhLtI9NpGr9zUagZ9s/s400/birdgardenBathing+1+%282%29.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5302708141480325298" border="0" /></a>Close up of the bird's rolling motion on the wet fern leave. Had difficulty focusing it due to the vines in front. The male has brown throat and metalic blue shoulder patch. I refered to Morten Strange's A Photographic Guide to the Birds of Southeast Asia (my Valentine present from my dearest) to identify this birdie. Close up photo revealed they are Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), (after I spent sometime researching on the web). Some are not flying is V formation as above photo. Quite amazing to watch, been watching them flying past for years. Like the name say, it is a genus resulted in crossing Brassavola, Laelia and Cattleya. I bought this beautiful hybrid some years back for S$30, divided them into pots. It is easy to grow this hybrid. This one just bloom a couple of days ago and normally last about two weeks. The size of the flower is about 100mm across. Opposite is Singapore, their live firing range or military training ground. Looks very professionally done, and going to be a sensational harbour. With architecture done by Philip Cox, maybe it is going be like Cockle Bay, Sydney Darling Harbour? Love the look of the boardwalk, made with simulated wood finish. Many rescue floats, no railings along the promenade though. It was very windy when I was there with my wife. You can hire a small cruise boat for about RM 400 for an hour of cruise, to Danga Bay and back! On the right is the proposed private marina, with high rise residential buildings. Should be an amazing place to live in future. Understand from the brochure, DAMAG Properties, a subsidiary of DAMAG Holdings, which is headquartered in Dubai is developing some of the commercial lots. The long low structure is probably for handling large cruise ships. Further inside is the public marina. Just the harbour and public clubhouse building is finished. Lots of earth works around, construction on the private marina is still on going, with very large and deep excavation with retaining structure being constructed.<br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIn1zwmDSeYCy8smhuKIaV7ePQI4eXsIU53EBevx-AxpDvK3wwoyHISo0m9aloRG6A5mrJaLDD-iOlEB8X25feoflop13ENHkKqGWtsEPke70ajOSuyaF2kB360ycw1wQ_5CNxgAxToC8/s1600-h/DSC_0112.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIn1zwmDSeYCy8smhuKIaV7ePQI4eXsIU53EBevx-AxpDvK3wwoyHISo0m9aloRG6A5mrJaLDD-iOlEB8X25feoflop13ENHkKqGWtsEPke70ajOSuyaF2kB360ycw1wQ_5CNxgAxToC8/s400/DSC_0112.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297483986546591778" border="0" /></a>Cox's architecture has silimarity with Cockle Bay Wharf.
